This Master-Thesis deals with the painted-over murals in the church of SS. Peter and Paul in Steinach (Thuringia), dated 1899 and made by Adolf Quensen. The objective was to discuss the reasons for the paintings` deterioration by studying their extent and condition, and to establish ideas for a possible concept of exposure, conservation and restoration. This concept was based on findings stemming from the review of other works by Adolf Quensens. Possibilities for dealing with the painted-over murals in SS. Peter and Paul in Steinach have been described and formed the basis for the concept of measures. The present thesis focuses on this concept and on its exemplary implementation in a reference area.
